About 45 minutes drive from the Puerto Vallarta International Airport is the Four Seasons Golf Club, located at Punta Mita, the northernmost point on the Banderas bay. This Jack Nicklaus signature course was opened in September of 1999 and plays out at par 72 and 7,014 yards of the most breathtaking golf course in Mexico (possibly in the world).

Percy Clifford is an English designer well known in Mexico for his work on several of the best courses in Mexico, including the Club de Golf Mexico and Club de Golf Chapultepec in Mexico City, as well as many other courses of note.

The Mayan Palace Golf Club, as the name implies, is located on the Mayan Palace property in Nuevo Vallarta, nestled snugly between the Pacific Ocean and the Rio Ameca, this golf course is only 15 minutes from the Puerto Vallarta International Airport. Opened in 2001, this Jim Lipe design features a par of 71 and 7000 yards of challenging play with impressive views of the Pacific Ocean, the Rio Ameca, and the surrounding Sierra Madre Mountains. Jim Lipe is Jack Nicklaus' head designer and this course reflects that great heritage.

Art and Culture, Local History

Most seasoned travelers agree that the most important, overriding ingredients in their entire travel experience are the local people and the quality of the interaction they have with them. In the Riviera Nayarit, the history and the overall effect is quadrupled! Four groups of indigenous people have populated the area and made it their home. The Mexicaneros, Tepejuaneroa, Coran and the Huichol all survived the Spanish conquest of the region. As a result, they still live very much like they did “yesterday”, in the days of the past.

Palm Beach is bounded by Broken Bay to the north, the Tasman Sea or South Pacific Ocean to the east, Whale Beach, Avalon and Clareville to the south, and Pittwater to the west. Barrenjoey Headland, which is in the north of the suburb, is part of Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park.

The headland at the northernmost point rises quite sharply from the beach to over 100 metres above sea level, and features an operational lighthouse. Although there are no public roads on the headland, the walk up is well worth the effort, with spectacular views of the surrounding area. The narrow sand spit linking the south side of the headland to the rest of Palm beach had extensive fencing and shrub planting undertaken during the 1970s to combat sand erosion.
